AUCKLAND NEWS.
(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS AS.-iOCIATIOX). Auckland, Last Night. The balance-sheet of the South British Insurance Company for the year ended 31st August, shows a profit in the revenue account of £5955, which added to the amount brought forward from lust year leaves £10,582 at the credit of profit and loss. Out of this an intcrum dividend was paid in April of Is 6d per share, and the payment of a further 2s per share is now recommended, leaving to be carried forward £4831. At the Police Court, before Mr Brabant, S.M., Jas. S. Hicks Ross was charsred with selling beer to Charles Strach.m at Kawau on M»y 14th without having a license. Defendant was also charged with selling whisky on June 18th to Kate Strachan without having a license Defendant was convicted and fined 20s in each case, with costs £lO 19s. An inquest was held on the infant son of Jessie Orr, a single woman, belonging to Dunedin. She came from Taupo and was confined without assistance. Dr. King, who made a post-mortem, found no marks of violence. He believed the child had breathed. The jury returned a verdict that there was no evidence to show how the child came by its death.
