TE KUITI.

Football.—A football match was played here last Saturday between teams representing Otorohanga and Te Kuiti, when Otorohanga won by 14 points lo nil. This seems rather a disgraceful beating, but it must be taken into consideration that the Otorohanga team has been playing cup matches all the season, while the Te Kuiti men had ouly played one game before, and had had no practice. In the first half Otorohanga scored eleven points, but the second was very much closer, and the Te Kuiti team looked like scoring several times, the spectators got very excited, and barracked in great style. The Te Kuiti full-back, Johnson, got a nasty knock in the beginning of the game, which rendered him unconscious for several minutes, and though he pluckily went on to the field again, he was slightly dazed for the rest of thn match. Among the Otorohanga team I think D. Turner and Eveluigh showed up particularly well in the forwards, while Carr, Ratima and Holland did good service, in the back division. There was not much brilliant individual play among the Kuitites, but Rehe, Kay and Sage were certainly the pick of the forwards, and T. Anderson and O'Grady worked well in the backs. A dinner was piovided by the local team at Mr Hetit's, the health of the Otorohanga team being proposed by the Kuiti captain and suitably responded to by the very energetic Otorohanga secretary, Mr Carr. A free-aud-easy wound up the proceedings, when several songs wore sung and dancing was kept going till nearly Sunday morning. Social.—A meeting of ladies and gentlemen interested in getting up another social was held at ,Mr Bond's on Wednesday night, when it was decided to hold a soeial in Mr Hetit's hall on Thursday, October (Ith. A strong committee was formed to carry out all arrangements, of which Miss Bond was chosen secretary. It was decided that any surplus over expenditure be used towards liquidating the tennis club's debt. —(Own Correspondent).
