WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.
% The adjourned meeting of the Waikato County Council was held at the Chambers, Hamilton East, yesterday afternoon. There were present: Messrs A. Primrose (Chairman), A. Furze, J. P. Bailey, W. H. Thomas, 8. T. Seddon and A. Mcßae. Valuation Charges.—The Hutt and Taranaki County Councils forwarded circulars enclosing resolutions passed and protesting strongly against the exorbitant charge made by the Government for the recent valuation.—The Clerk stated that there had not been very much alteration in the cost to the Waikato Council, it being £IOO, as compared to £72, the cost of previous valuation ; but this price had been unprecedontly low. The charge was not excessive if the roll was complete. There were several discrepancies in the roll, more especially in the Huntly district, Ralph's mine property being one glaring instance ot inaccuracy. Resignation.--Constable White, of Huntly, wyote, notifying the Council of his transfer to Auckland, also forwarding his resignation as Inspector of abbatoirs and 'slaughterhouses. Constable Howell, his successor, who has been requested to take the position, wrote, accepting and forwarding a number of returns. Constable Howell stated that the business had for some time been conducted iu a somewhat lax manner, but he had, since his appointment, notified the butchers iu his district that in future returns must be sent in weekly. Riding Accounts —The Clerk read the following statement of the riding balances :—Whangamarino, debit, £29 12s ; Huntly, credit. £SB 17s 2M ; Kirikiriroa, debit, £S 4s sid ; Tamahere, credit, £45 4s 3Ad ; Cambridge, credit, £ll4 6s7kl; Model Farm, debit, £231 3s 5d ; credit balance, £SO lis 9d. Valuation.— The Clerk presented a return showing the difference in the old and new valuation in tho Waikato County, as fallows ; Whangamarino Riding, increase, £8,218; Huntly Riding, increase, £ 10,4(i6 ; Khikiriroa Riding, decrease, £3,751 ; Tamahere Riding, decrease, £1,603 ; Cambridge Riding, increase, £19,252 ; net increase, £32,582.
Accounts. —The following accounts were passed for payment : Win. Dey, £1 3s Sd ; W. Birss, £1 ; law costs, £4 Is ; salary, £S 6s Sd ; Constable Howell, £1 2s 4d ; councillors' travelling expenses, £3 15s.
Analyses of Manures.—O. Thomas proposed that 'application be made to the Colonial Secretary, in accordance with section 10 of " The Manure Adulteration Act, 1892," to. issup an order authorising tire Waikato Cpunty Council to appoint, for a ppripd of three years, one or more inspectors, for the purpose of obtaining samples of manure, as provided by section 7 of that Act, within the county, and submit same for analysis by the Public Analyst appointed under that Act—Or. Seddon said he thought this was a step in the right direction, and seconded the motion.—The Clerk explained that this matter had come before the Council on a previous occasion. The only hitch had been that the inspector could on'y deal with manure sold' \yifchin the county, and those who sold manures were all situated within the Boroughs. Mr Paterson's bonemill was the only place tliat would come within reach.—On the suggestion of the chairman it was decided to leave the mattpr stand over until next meeting, iii order, that the members mj«l)t Iqok up the Act bearing' on the mf.tter. —In the meantime tlie clerk was instructed to write to the Colonial Secretary for the necessary permission. Chmutablk Aid.—A circular from the Wairarapa North County Council, upon the subject of charitable aid (similar to that already referred to in our reports of the Waipa and other council meetings), was received. Municipal Franchise Reform.— The Gore Borough Council and Ohiueniuri County 'Council each foryva-rded circulars referring to tlie Muuicipoil Frauchiae Reform Bill and Local Government Reform Bill, drawing attention to a number of objectionable clauses.—The Councillors expressed themselves in sympathy with thp movement, bn f ' as the matter had bean thrashed out at a previqus ineptjng the subject was not reopened. Other business of a routine nature was transacted, and the Board rose at 5 p.m.
