It was decided to have sjcials monthly. ,: Postal Service.—An improvement in the postal service from here has been arranged by which mails will arrive in Auckland on the s'anie day, 'as tnat on which they leave this post-oitice'; thus avoiding the delay at Hamilton.'which formerly existed. This innovation will be v mat benefit, both .to business people and the public generally, and 'will also enable passengers travelling p by the mail coach to reac|) their dejjtiaa r lion without being subjected to the inconvenience of losing a day. The mails now close at the Te Uku post-ofhoe at 8.30 a.m., instead of 10 45 a.m. as formerly. Loss ov Stock.—There has been a heavy mortality amongst stock, more particularly dairy cows, during the past month or two ; many farmers in this district have lost from four to ten cows each, due to shortness of feed in some cases, and in others the cattle were bogged.—(Own Correspondent).
