DEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER. (BY TELKGRAI'II—rRESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, Last Night. REPLYING to a deputation of seventeen Auckland and Taranaki members which waited on the Premier, lions. Cad man, Carroll, IfallrJoues and Thomson in connection wit') the completion of the North Island M-ifn Trunk Line, said the statement that the Government had not kept fait|j on the subject of tire completion of flip |ine dpi' not apply to the present Ministry mere than to any previous Covernment. Sufficient time would have to be given the Covernment to consider the question of substituting the Stratford for the Central route, as the matter was one in which they could not act hastily, nor could they entirely reverse the policy endorsed by the Governments and Parl'ameuts for the previous 'sixteen years. Fullest enquiries would require to be made before the Government could give a definite decision on the question of routes.
