HAMILTON WEST SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting, of the Hamilton West School Committee was held in the Waikato Times buildings last evening. The chair was occupied by the Rev. Dr. Hosking, and there were present— Messrs E. White, W. Manning, J, Andrew, W. O. Castleton, W. Jones and W. J. White. Cleaning SenooL.—The committee decided to give MrsEriekson, the schoolcleaner, an increase in salary to the extent of 6s per month Removal of School.—The letter from the Education Board, referring to the removal and amalgamation of the Hamilton schools, which, has already been published in our columns, was considered.— The Chairman said the Hamilton East School Committee had discussed the matter, and had decided not to entertain the idea. —Mr Jones did not think a suitable site could be found on the West side of the river.—Messrs Manning, Jones and Andrew opposed the matter. Mr Castleton thought it was rather premature to discuss the proposal. He thought they should write to the Board asking for further information. An excellent site could be obtained in Hamilton East, vis,, Mr Coates' paddock near the bridge. He spoke at length upon the advantages to be derived from such a step, and said he thought the committee should sink the East and West feeling in the interests of education.—Mr Jones and several other committeemen strongly opposed any alteration in the existing arrangements. Eventually it was resolved to write and ask the Board for fuller information regarding the proposed site.—The Chair man thought it would be advisable to submit the question to the householders in order to obtain an expression of public opinion.—This suggestion found favour with the other members, but it will not be definitely settled until the Board's reply had been received. Examination'.—The examination of the Hamilton West School will commence on September 26th, and the school will be closed for 14 days. Printing, etc. —Mr Castleton proposed, and Mr Jones seconded, that in future the printing aud stationery and the supply of school requisites should be tendered for.—Carried.
