NGARUAWAHIA.
Debating Society.-On Wednesday the meeting of the Ngaruawahia Debating Society, which had been postponed from the previous Friday evening, was held. The subject set down was essays on " Are the Sexes Equally Affected by the Fashions?" Only thne papers were handed in, aud after bci.jg read and remarked on by some of those present, the rest of the evening was devoted to impromptu specccl.es. At the closm'c was announced that the next meeting would lie a parliamentary evening. Footballers' Ball.—Oh Friday the Waingaro footballers' ball was held iu the mill hall, and, under the circumstances, «as fairly SL-«ces.'ful. The attendance was not so large as on similar occasions in the past, but this was no doubt owing in a great measure to the numerous calls for support which have been made upon the people of the township duritu* tli! last few weeks. The music, which gave every satisfaction to the dancers, was supplied by Mis< N. Paterson (piano), Messrs W. Il'itt (cornet), and W. Hoj« (violin). Mrs F. Hint and Miss Moffitt also assisted at the piano several times during the evening. The supper, provided by the ladies, i was laid out in an adjoining room. ) Dancing was kept up till after 2 o'clock, j —(Own Correspondent).
