WAIKATO WEST INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
The forthcoming Industrial Exhibition is now attracting a great deal of attention. At a meeting of the executive committee, held on Tuesday evening, Mr Vause presiding, the Hon. Secretary reported that with few exceptions those gentlemen invited to become vice-patrons of the exhibition had consented to do so, and in several instances handsome donations had been forwarded either as " special prizes " or to the general funds. The secretary was directed to acknowledge with the committee's best thanks all such donations, and to meet _ the wishes of several donors it was decided to enlarge on the schedule to permit of special cash or other prizes being given in any particular section. The special prizes already donated include a guinea from the Hon. Mr A. J. Cadman as first prize, and half a guinea from Mr W. M. Bankart as second prize for the best collection of cookery. Five shillings has been donated by Mrs J. Cottrell for the best brown bread loaf, these competitions open to girls aged 18 years and under. A first prize of half a. guinea, donated by Mr J. Cottrell, and second prize of five shillings by Mr A. V. Macdonald, for best ironed white shirt. A first prize, value half a guinea, donated by Mr W. J. Culver, for the best written letter describing a visit to any township in the district, competition in these classes open to allcomers. Several other special prizes already donated or promised, including an oil painting valued at two guineas, donated by Mr A. M. Chappell, a recent arrival iu the district, have not yet been allocated. These and any other special prizes that may be donated will be allocated shortly and particulars duly announced. Detailed schedules of the various sections of exhibits, etc., as drafted by the chairman and secretary, were approved with a few alterations, and it was decided to have 2500 copies of the schedules printed for immediate circulation. (These ars now being printed at The Argus office, and will be ready for distribution in a day or so). A large number of ladies and gentlemen have consented to act as stewards in the various classes, _ and several have promised '' loan collections " of pictures and other exhibits. The question of appointing judges and other matters were left over till the next meetin" of the executive. The happy idea of holding this Industrial Exhibition seems to have " caught on " right through the Waikato West District. Many of the young people are already hard at work preparing their exhibits, and from che active general interest already taken in it, there is every promise of the affair being the success it deserves to be.— (Own Correspondent).
