(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT),

Cairo ; August 29. Refugees from Omdurnian report that new earthworks are being erected round the city. Osman Digna .and the Emir Wad Dekeim, with a strong force of dervishes, are stationed somewhere outside the city in the open country. A battle is expected to take place on Thursday. The Anglo-Egyptian force has reached Wady Obeid, IS miles from the Khalifa's advanced post at Kerreri. They have occupied a camp just evacuated by the dervishes. Swarms of deserters are arriving. It is believed the dervishes will fight at Kerreri. Owing to a fearful dust storm, General Kitchener was unable to make a reconnaisance of the enemy's position.
