NGARUAWAHIA.

School Concert.— The annual concert in aid of the funds of the school committee came off on Friday, the liGtli inst., and was a decided success. '1 he weather was all that could be desired, and consequently the hall was packed, many indeed only being able to get stan ling room. The Ngaruawahia Rrass Hand assembled and played a few selections outside before the performance began. The programme opened with an overture, " Defiance," by the orchestra. Mr R W. Hunt followed with the song " Maid of Athens." The next item was a vocal nuet " Friendship," prettily rendered by the Misses Butcher. Miss Troughcar, of Huntly, then sang" Love's Golden Dream," and as usual when this young lady favours us, she was vigor ously encored and gave " The Little Shamrock." The neat item was a comic song entitled ' Tut Tut," by Mr Lloyd, who responded to an encore with "Puzzle"; Miss Maseiield then recited " The Last Shot"; Miss Gertie Hunt followed with " Whisper and I Shall Hear." This was her first appearance before a Ngaruawahia audience, and her efforts were much appreciated. The nest item was a song, "The Valley by the Sea," by Miss Grace Butcher, who was compelled to return and repeat the last verse. The first part of the programme concluded with a comic song " The Giddy little Gay Polka," by Mr A. J. Simmelhaj?, who fairly broucht the house down; ho then sang "Just Lately." After an interval ot five minutes the second part opened with an overture "En Route," by Master W. Smith. Mr W. Paterson then sang "Fiona," tied was well received. He was followed by Miss Harris with the ROng " IV,ir Heart." The next item mis a song, "When Nuts are Down," by Miss Madeline Clayton, who repeated the l.i-.t verse as an encore. Mi-.
