FOOTBALL.
The Secretary of the Waikato Rugby Union received word late yesterday, from three members of the Cambridge Football Club, and also from the members of the ITuntly Club, chosen to play in the return match with the Waipa Rugbv Union arranged to be played to-day, at Te Awamutu, that they would be unable to attend. This is most unfortunate, as they represented eight members of the team selected by the Union last Saturday. This defection, of course, made it impossible to play a representee team ; but when ths captain of the Hamilton team became aware of the position, he at once set to work to get a team together from the members of his club, and we are pleased to say he met with a generous response from his men, iso that the Waipa Union will not be altogether disappointed after making every arrangement for the entertainment of their visitors. To say the least, the action of the clubs who have failed the Union at the last moment is most unfair to the Union, as the inability to play the men chosen outdit to have been intimated to the Secretary of the Union before the eleventh hour yesterday. However, the members of the "Hamilton Club will fill the gap, and we have little doubt will give a good account of themselves. The following players will compose the team : Dousliu. Hyde, Windsor, Dodd, Lowe, Beere, Speight, H. Johnson, Hobbs, W. Hume, Hunt, Whisker, Pike, E. Johnson, Medland. The brake will leave Hamilton at 12.30 to-day.
