CHINESE QUESTION.
(BY ELKCTMC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT). St. Petersburg, August 15. The Russian newspapers compliment Sir W. V. Harcourt on Lis speeches in connection with the Chinese question, and commend Lord Salisbury's utterances. The semi-official St. Petersburg Journal says the English newspapers are misinformed as to recent events, and with regard to Russia's alleged intention to injure the economic interests of Great Britain. Shanghai, August 15. It is stated that Russia is intriguing to obtain control of the maritime customs in China. Pekin, August 15. Li Hung Chang denies that the Tsung-li-Yamen has been truckling to Russia, and states there is no intention to cause humiliation to Great Britain. London, August 15. It is reported that Lord Salisbury contemplates demanding Li Hung's dismissal.
