DEATH OF AN OLD IDENTITY.
Death has just claimed another of our old identities, in the person of Mr Henry Webber, who died at his residence, Hamilton West, on Thursday. The deceased, who was about OS years of age, formerly belonged to the 40th regiment, with which he came from England in 1553 on H.M.S. Vulcan and took part iu the suppression of the riots at Bendigo and Ballarat. He left the 40th in Melbourne to join the 4th Waikato's, in which regiment he held the position of Armourer Sergeant under Col. Pitt in 1564. When the 4th Waikato's were disbanded the deceased remained in the district, and the last eight or ten years of his life have been spent in Hamilton. The late Mr Webber has been a confirmed cripple from rheumatism and gout for years, and in this light his demise might be looked upon as a blessing, affording a happy relief from all his sufferings, • The deceased leaves two grown up sons, one Mr R. Webber, of Hamilton, and Mr.H. Wobber, of Cambridge. The funeral will take place at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. *
