RAGLAN.
Accident.-On Saturday afternoon, whilst bush-felling at Pakaka, Turanga, a native employed in Galvan's bush contract, met with a serious accident, a limb of a tree having fallen upon his shoulder. Fortunately, he was but a short distance from the camp. On Monday morning the men in camp conveyed him on a stretcher to Raglan, and from there to the native settlement at Kopua, a distance of 22 miles ; the greater part of the road was very bad, and the weather trying to the carriers. The injured man is said by his native friends to be progressing favourably. He is under 20 years of age, intelligent, and received his education at the Three Kings' Institute, and speaks English well. Medical..—Mr Langley has convened a meeting, to be held on Saturday, 13th inst, to consider the subject of getting a medical man for the district, and appoint a committee for carrying out the necessary arrangements. One or two medical men, I hear, have already been approached on the subject. Death.—Mr and Mrs Litchfield, l am sorry to hear, have lost their infant daughter. The remains were interred in the Okete cemetery, Mr Leach officiating the grave.—(Own Correspondent.)
