All of the judgments gained by the plaintiffs 'in the recent Brurmer mine action against the Greymouth Point Elizabeth Coal Company, have now been settled by the payment of a lump sum to the plaintiffs' solicitor. As a consequence of this, the seizure of the miDe by the debenture-holders has been cancelled and the company is again iD possession 'of its property. Full work will be resumed at Brnnner on Monday next, heavy rains on the West Coast having interfered with the immediate resumption of operations. DEATH OF SIR F. D. BELL. Sir Francis Dillon Bell died at Shag at 2.30 this afternoon. THE EFFECTS OF THE WAR. Mr D. S. Gray, of Wellington, in a letter to his relatives, states that the Perthshire, by which he travelled to London, did not land any of her passengers at Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands, on account of the hostility exhibited towards Britishers by the Spanish people on the islands. Mr Gray adds that it was reported on board the Perthshire when she lay off Las Palmas that a number of the big guns which the Spanish Government had sent out to fortify the port had actually been sent from Madrid without breech blocks.
