(by telegraph—press association). Auckland, Last Night. OLD SOLDIERS' CLAIMS. Old soldiers are sending a circular letter to the Auckland members asking their aid to gee justice in regard to their land claims. MR SPOONER'S CASE. A petiton to the Minister for Justice praying for a remission of the sentence passed on Charles F. Spooner, printer, tor the publication of a leaflet to which his imprint was not attached, is being signed and forwarded to Wellington. He has served nine days' imprisonment already out of the two months' sentence. The petitioners pray for the remission of the remainder of the term, it being urged that his offence was merely a technical one. The prosecutor was the first who signed the petition.
