DEFENCE OF THE CABLE.
(HY TELEGRAM— PRESS ASSOCIATION). Whakapdaka, Last Night. Colonel Pole-Penton and party made an inspection of the headlands, in the vicinity of Cable Bay, this afternoon. Nothing has been divulged as to what steps are to be taken to protect the shore ends of the cable, but it is understood that the Commandant's opinion is imperative that some means of protection would have to be afforded in the event of Great Britain at any time being involved in 'war.
