WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.

On Saturday last a meeting was held at Wacranga, to consider the advisability of abolishing the above Council. Mr A. Ross was in the chair, Mr Mcßae said before proceeding to the main bus>iu?ss he wished to take the opinion of the ratepayers on the reduction of the Clerk's salary. A motion was carried thanking Mr Mcßae for his action in this matter, the only one dissentient being Mr F. J. Johnson. Mr Mcßae then pointed out that in his opinion the Waikato Council was a superfluous body, as the Road Board could do all the work. The Council was a very expensive body, the cost of management being 35 per cent, of the rates collected, every penny of which could be saved by abolishing the Council. If this were done he thought that £d county rate could be dispensed with, and the roads be in as good a state as they were at present, or by leaving the rates unaltered, they would be able to spend much more money on them. A discussion followed, and the only Jeraon who opposed the motion was Mr ohnson. A motion was carried asking Mr McRae to get the Counties Act hung up, and another thanking him for his action on the Council.

Mr Mcßae said he thought the other ridiugs were with him, and he would see to the matter being ventilated.
