SENTENCES ON THE PRISONERS. (UY TELEGRAPH--PRESS ASSOCIATION). Auckland, Last Night. The case of Hone Tcia and others connected with him, who pleaded guilty on Thursday to conspiriug on May Ist to oppose the dog tax by force, and also to unlawful assembly on the same date, was continued today. Messrs Theo. Cooper and F. Earl addressed the Court in mitigation of sentence. Evidence as to character was given by two Maoris, and Mr W. S. Cochrane and others. Sentences were passed as follows : Hone Toia, Romana, Hone Mete, Waimana, as principals, to 18 mouths' imprisonment each; Makara, as having been previously convicted in 1887 of a similar offence, to 18 mouths, and there were eleveu fined £lO each, and to find sureties for £25 to keep the peace for 12 months, Three months were allowed in which to pay the fines.
