PIRONGIA.

Weather.—There has been quitea dearth of news here this tast month, nothing whatever haviug eventuated worth chronicling. The weather has been wonderfully fine for this time of year, no rain to speak of for upwards of a fortnight past, with frosty nights. For outdoor work nothing could be better, but growth is at a standstill, and for stock for which there are no swedes it is bud indeed. Volunteer Corps.—lt is proposed to form a volunteer rifle corps for the Waipa district. This is most desirable and would greatly benefit a great number of young fellows in the district. Those who have attended our athletic club meetings cannot but have noticed the splendid raw material we have for the making of a good corps. It only wants drill and to be taught discipline to make as fine a body of soldiers as could be found the world over. As yet no public meeting has been called to initiate the movement, but a list of those desirous to join is lying at Mr Aubin's store and has already received some thirty signatures. It only wants some one with a little energy to call a.public meeting to consider the matter, and there is no doubt the requisite number of recruits would soon be forthcoming. Exploration foe Roads.—The "Government Surveyors, Messrs Hursthouse, Cussen and Adams, after a month's exploration of the Kinohaku and Hauturn Blocks for the purpose of laying out a road, came out of the bush at Waitomo Caves, after a rough time of it. The country right through is much broken and all dense bush, hitherto unexplored. Wild cattle were pleutiful and the party were successful, as Mr Adams and party are now coming to cut the neccessary lines, starting from the Te Kau-a-moa Settlement.—(Own Correspondent).
