WELLINGTON NEWS.
(by telegraph.—press association). t NORTHERLY GALE. Wellington, Last Night. A very heavy gale from the north was blowing all night, and is still raging. All the small shipping has been interfered with, and the Tutanekai was unable to start with the repair of the cable. A good deal of damage has been done to roofs and glass in the town. THEFT OF JEWELLERY. Two men, named Waldridge and Walsh, were committed for trial for stealing £IOO worth of jewellry from Shaw's shop at Masterton. A large number of watches, etc. has been discovered. A " COASTER " FINED. A few days ago a youth named Hankins borrowe d a bicycle, andJ amused himself coasting down a steep street. In the dark he ran into a man named Priest, and broke his leg. On the ground that he had no lamp lighted and did not ring a bell, he was fined, with costs, £3 13s.
