(BY TELEGRAPH.— rRESS association). A NEW MOUNTED CORPS. Wellington, Last Night. Steps are being taken to form a Mounted Rifle Corps, to replace the defunct Heretaunga Cavalry. A fair number ha 3 already promised to join. THE SEAMEN'S UNION. The. Times says the local branch of the Federated Seamen has passed a resolution approving of the action of the head office at Dunedin in dismissing the President and Secretary. DEATH OF A CHINAMAN. Ac the inquest on the Chinaman Ying Ping, death was shown to be the result of congestion of the lungs, opium smoking and want of food, the wound on his head having nothing to do with it. Dr. Cahill, in giviug his evidence, protested against the want of accommodation at the police depot for drunk patients and against the practice of bending persons suffering from drink to the hospital amongst other patients.
