(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Auckland, Last Night. Hon. T. Thompson, Minister of Defence, had an interview to-day with Mr Arthur Douglas, Under-Secretary for Defence, in connection with the sitting of the Def« nee Committee. The Committee visited several points on the coast where they considered a landing might be effected. New police barracks are to be at once erected. At the annual meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women aud Children, and the prevention of cruelty to animals, His Excellency the Governor was elected President, and the Countess of Ranfurly Patreness of the Bands of Mercy. Hon. Mr Thompson addresses his constituents on Wednesday.
