TE AWAMUTU INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

The Te Awamutu Library Committee at their last meeting appointed Messrs Barker, Gresham and Vause a subcommittee to take in hand the carrying out of a young peoples' industrial/exhibition if found practicable, and these gentlemen met one evening last week, when it was resolved that an exhibition, to be called the " Waikato West Industrial Exhibition," be held in Te Awamutu in the early spring. The objects of the exhibition to be:—(1) The development of the skill aud inventive faculties of the young ; (2) to provide pleasant employment for leisure hours ; (3) to fosier a taste for the cultivation of plants and flowers. Competitions to be open to all persons under 21 years of age residing in the Waikato West district (embodying Ohaupo, Tuhikaramea, Te Kore. Paterangi, Firongia, Te Awamutu, Kihikihi, Otorohauga, and Te Kuiti postal districts), awards to be given for the best competitive exhibits in numerous classes, including plain and fancy needlework, collections of various articles, mechanical work, horticulture and cookery, full schedules of which will be issued later on. It was decided to invite His Excellency, Lord Ranfurley, to become Patron, and several other gentlemen vice-Patrons of the Exhibition. iJiss Ida Vause was appointed exhibition secretary and treasurer, and was instructed to have circnlars printed, setting forth the objects of the Society, and soliciting the cooperation of teachers and friends in making it a success. Also to ascertain the probable cost of bronze and gilt medals, suitable for awards in the various classes. A number of ladies and gentleman arc to be asked to assist the executive committee in carrying out the affair, and the idea of such an exhibition being new to the district and the matter in the hands of good workers, all that is is the hearty co-operation of and parents to make it the success it should be.
