THE SPANISH FLEET.

Washington. May 30. Admiral Schley, who is in command of the American flying squadren, which left Hampton Roads some time ago, and has been cruising iu Cuban waters on the look - out for the Spanish torpedo flotilla, has reported to his Government that since his arrival off Santiago de Cuba he has recognised the vessels of the Spanish admiral's fleet lying at anchor in the bay. Admiral Cerveras, it will be remembered, after couling at Martinique and calling at Curacoa, was announced to have arrived at Santiago de Cuba, on the south-western coast of the island, but doubts have arisen as ts his subsequent movements, the late t rumour being that he had succeeded in escaping from the harbour, and was cruising in Central American waters. The news communicated to the American Government by Admiral Schley, if true, fiually disposes of all doubts as to the whereabouts of the Spanish fleet under Admiral Cerveras, and shows that it is still at Santiago de Cuba, where the American naval commanders are now engaged in hemming it in. The Times' Kingston correspondent telegraphs that Admiral Cerveras' fleet is in Central American waters. Washington, May 31. Mr Long, the Secretary foi- the Navy, on being interviewed regarding the report that Admiral Scbley had informed the Government that he had sighted the vessels of the Spanish fleet in Santiago de Cuba, declined to either confirm or deny the rumour.
