DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER.
I REGBET to announce (writes our Ohaupo correspondent) the death of Mrs Michael Krippner, formerly of Ohaupo, and late of Te Rore, which sad event occurred at her daughter's residence at Te Rore. The interment took place in the Roman Catholic burial ground at Ohaupo on Monday last. The deceased lady came to New Zealand in 1863 with her husband and family from Bohemia to the Puhoi special settlement, promoted by the late Capt. Krippner, of the Austrian service. On the outbreak of the Waikato war Capt.. Krippner formed the German Company of the 3rd Waikato rciriment, and persuaded his brother, the husband of deceased, to join, consequently they were amongst the first to settle on their land at Ohaupo, enduring in the early days all the struggles of pioneers, which we in these times know so little of. But there are still many amongst us who remember the genial old people and their kindness and hospitality. The late Mrs Krippner leaves three daughters and one son ; Mrs Millar, now in England. Mrs J. T. Edwards, of Ohaupo, Mrs P. Rice, of Te Rore, and Mr John Krippner, of Te Rore, to mourn their loss. The remains were followed to their last resting place by the many friends and relatives of the deceased, and were interred by the side of her late husband, who preceded her some six years ago, the Rev. Father Amandolini, of Hamilton, reading the service at the grave. I sincerely sympathise with the relatives in this their sad bereavement.
