"JACK ASHORE."
Wellington, Thursday. The sailors Barnes and Brown, accused of maltreating Constable McLeod, were acquitted on the ground of conflicting evidence. McLeod was bitten and badly kicked. Inspector Pender said particular instructions had been given to the police not to interfere with sailors unless they were actually creating a disturbance. Since the affray pickets from the men-of-war have patrolled the streets, and there has been no more disorder.
