TE AROHA BATH HOUSE.

On Queen's Birthday the Hon. Mr Cadman formally opened the new bath house, which is a one storey structure, built after the Swiss Chalet style. It is 98 feel, long and 28 feet wide, with a corridor, 8 feet wide, running the whole lenth of the building, from which access is had to the 19 bath-rooms, each of which is from 6ft. 6in. to 9ft. square. Handsome waiting-rooms for ladies and gentlemen are attached. The new baths are of earthenware, heavily enamelled, and four of these are sunk to the floor level, in order to allow invalids to get in and out without trouble. An excursion train from Waikato stations was run and brought a good uumbcr of people to witness the proceedings. A procession of volunteers and school children took place through the principal street. The Hon. Mr Cadman delivered an address, in the course of which he spoke highly of the medicinal qualities of the water. Governments had expended a total of £6195 between 1883 and that date. In order to show that the baths are appreciated by the public, he stated that the receipts had gradually increased from £387 in 1885 to £729 in 1897. This large increase was due to some extent to the opening of the railway line to He added that many were to know when railway communication was likely to be established between Thames and Te Aroha. So far as he could judge the line should be completed by the end of this year As a result of his travels round the colony he had concluded that Te Aroha was the best bathing place. Before sitting down he declared the baths opened.
