THE CUBAN CABLES.

Washington, May 23. Reports from Madrid state that the Spanish authorities have decided to cut the American cables to Cuba if the remaining cables to Cuba are cut by America. An unsuccessful attempt was made by a party of Americans to cut the cable in Guantamo Bay, the southeastern extremity of Cuba. The Americans entered flying the squadron colours for the purpose of dectiving the defenders, but a Spanish gunboat openod firfl and compelled them to retire. Reports from Key West Btate that the cable from Cienfuegos to Santiago de Cuba, which was cut, has been repaired.
