OHAUPO ATHLETIC MEETING.

On Tuesday last (Queen's Birthday) the annual meeting of the Ohaupo Athletic Club was held in Mr Mear's paddock, and was on the whole very satisfactory. The early part of the day being bright, a great many visitors rolled up, and by the time the [second event on the card was being decided between four and five hundred peoplo were present. The Te Awamutu Band, under Bandmaster Bain, played during the afternoon, and counteracted in no small degree the unpleasantness occasioned by the cold intermittent showers that fell in the latter part of the afternoon. The racing throughout was very exciting, and the prompt manner with which the committee worked out the details of the programme gave every satisfaction. The track raced on by the cyclists was not the very smoothest, consequeatly the fields for the " wheel" events were rather small. Our originil report having gone amiss in transit, we are only able to give the result* as follows : 220 Yabds Hurdles.—Hickey, 1. 100 Tares (amateur). Taylor, 1 ; Cowling, 2; Wright, 3. 100 Yards (open) —Clark, 1. Fancy Costume Race.—Parkes,. 1; George, 2 ; Cowley, 3. Needle Race.—Parked, 1. 250 Yards (open).— Runney, 1 ; Clark, 2. One Mile Bicycle.—Alyward, 1 ; Jackson, 2 ; Goodwin, 3. Quarter - mile Flat (amateur). — Churches, 1 ; Davie, 2. Two-mile Bicscle.—-Drury, 1; Aylward, 2 ; Jackson, 3. Hale-mile. —Runney, 1. Tugof-Wae, Ohaupo v. Allcomers, ten aside.—Ohaupo won easily. Consolation Race.—M. Sexton, 1; Davis, 2. In the evening a social was held in the Public Hall, when visitors and friends from all round the district gathered in a large number to enjoy themselves. Mr Dan. Turnwald made an efficient M.C, while the music supplied by Messrs Drury (cornet) and Corboy (piano) ga"e a treat that called for very frequent encores. However, all jollifications have an ending, and 1 am sure that all our friends when journeying homeward carried pleasant recollections that will again attract them to our popular fixture on the 24th May.—(Contributed).
