o JAPAN EAGER FOR A BRITISH ALLIANCE. (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT). London, May 18. Lord Salisbury, in making reference to Japan, adopted a tone of marked friendliness. He implied that the occupation of Wei-hei-wei was intended to convey to Japan and Corea that Britain had maintained her right in North China. He hoped the occupation of Wei-hei-wei would inspire China with courage to withstand her enemies, and waive the despairing feeling that Russian domination was li6r inexorable destiny. London, May 19.
