CAMBRIDGE EAST SCHOOL.

On Wednesday afternoon the Mayor of Cambridge (Mr Bach), who is also the chairman of the School Committee, presented the prizes that had been won at the sohool sports to the successful competitors. In doing so he made a felicitous little speech, is which he congratulated the scholars upon the succexs of the sports meeting, and said he was slart to eee that a number of frasli names appeared in the list of winners. He condoled with those who had be«n unsuccessful, and counselled them not to be down-hearted, but to do their best when the annual Bport's day again rolled round and they would probably come out on the top. If they would oil do their very utmost to excel when in school and also when at play, they would make good and useful members of society and be a credit to their parents. His Worship then distributed the prizes, and after he had performed that pleasant duty he, on behalf of the scholars, presented the headmaster, Mr Dyer, with a pipe ana stick of tobacco, as a little souvenir of the occasion. Mr Dyer thanked the children for their useful present, and then thinked the Mayor for having distributed the prizes. He also epoke in v*ry compli meutary terms of Mrs Swayne and her daughters, who had borno the labour, or at any rate the greater portion of it, of providing the refreshments ; and of Miss Mandeno andMrCarnachan, who greatly helped to make the meeting such a success. The children then cave cheers for all those alluded to by Mr Dyer, which terminated the proceedings.
