RAGLAN.
Maori Tangi.—During the last week there has been a large assemblage of rativcs to pay respect to the remains of Bella Ngatiti, a half-caste native, of the Ngatihourua tribe. She died the other day at Te Kopua (Raglan), and natives from the adjacent parts came over to the tangi. On Friday afternoon there was a good number of Europeans present watching the proceedings, her remains being then iuterred. The deceased iu the old days bad been a pupil at the Three King's Institution, and she was well-known in Raglan and the districts around. The natives have now gone to their homes,having finished up on Monday night with a dance in the Public Hall. Council Election.—On Monday Raglan was more than usually busy, it being tlm day for the election of a Councillor re Mr Lascelles resigned. The only candidates nominated were Messrs W. J. Smith and A. S. Litchfield. The result of the poll :-W. J. Smith 30, and A. S. Litchfield 11.—(Own Correspondent).
