"WAIKATO E.UGBY UNION.
The annual meeting of the Waikato Rugby Union was held at the Royal Hotel on Saturday evening last at 8 p.m. The president, Mr Geo. Edgecumbe, presided. There were delegates present from the Waingaro, Huntly and Hamilton Clubs. The hon. secretary (Mr H. Tristram) read the minutes of the last meeting, which were read and con* firmer). Report and Balance-sheet. A statement of receipts and expenditure was submitted by the secretary, showing a balance in. hand of £lO 6s, with liabilities amounting to £ls 8s 6d. This included caps for 1896 and 1897 at £9 12s. The Secretary reported that he had not paid the other accounts, as the question of providing caps had been raised, and he preferred taking the opinion of the Union before deciding what should be paid with the funds in hand. A.t the same time he thought an account of £5, due to Mr Preston for a dinner, should be paid. He also stated that he had been informed that steps were being taken to form a club at Ohaupo and Cambridge. He thought it would be wise to have another meeting of the Union before any definite arrangements were decided upon, as it was impossible to arrange for any fixtures He also stated that he understood there was a movement on foot to form a Union in Waipa. and read a letter from Mr D. Bockett, Secretary of the Te Awamutu Club, upon the subject, and asking for a copy of the Waikato Union rules. He intended writing to Mr Bockett, informing him of the result of the meeting, as he thought it would be much to the detriment of football in Waikato if there were two Unions ; and they could see very plainly from the report and bal-ance-sheet that it was as much as they could do to pay expenses even when all the clubs in the Waikato joined in one Union.—On the motion of Mr J. Low, seconded by Mr Williamson, it was decided to call another meeting on May 10th, as by that time they would be able to tell what clubs would be in the field. In the meantime the Secretary was requested to notify the various cluba of the meeting and ask them to attend.
This concluded the business. VVAIPA B/TJGBY TTNIOX A meeting of the different clubs in the Waipa district interested in the formation of a Rugby Union was held at Te Awamutu during last week, Mr James Ryburn presiding. After some discussion it was decided to form a union to be called the " Waipa Rugby Union." The fixtures for the seasou will be decided by delegates from the Te Awamutu, Paterangi, Kihikihi, Otorohanga, Ohaupo and Cambridge West Clubs, on Friday evening next at Te Awamutu.
