DEATH OF EX-JUDGE FENTON.

The death of Mr F. D. Feuton, exJudge of the Native Lands Court, will cause regret amongst a very large circle of private friends, and a much larger ciicle of those who have had au opportunity of watching his public career in this colony. He had been iu failing health for some years, but his death at last was very sudden and unexpected. He had attained the age of 77, so that in the ordinary course of nature he coald not be expected to live much longer. Before being appointed Judge of the Native Lands Court he served the colony as a Magistrate in several native districts, including Waikato, with marked ability, and he was, perhaps, the most able and successful Judge who has sat upon the bench of the Native Lands Court. In Judge Fenton the colony not only loses an old and faithful Civil servant, but, in addition, a well-read cultivated man and able musician.
