NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.
The adjourned meeting of the above Board was held at the office, Ohote, on Tuesday. There were present: Messrs Corboy (chairman), Clow, Fullerton and Shepherd. Assessmfnt Roll.—A memo, was received from the Valuer General with copy of assessment roll for the district, requesting that it might be returned with any necessary corrections. —The clerk reported that this had been done. The total capital value of land, including improvements, on the new roll is £63,207, as against £61,555 in 1895, an increase of £1352. Thikds.—A communication was re ceived from the District Land and Survey Office, Auckland, enclosing a statement of thirds accorded on lands taktn up under perpetual loan, defcried payment, etc , and requested that a return for the expeudi'ure of the amount, some £ll ICs, be .submitted.--The Chairman stated that it was very difficult to ascertain the actual amounts due on the different lards, as in many cases only a few shillings could bo spent. Sy.-tk.m of Rating.—A circular letter was rec ived from the Katikati Road Board on the question of rating on unimproved values.—The matter was left over untiNhe aunual meeting of ratepayer?, which takes places on Friday, May 6th. Roau Deviation.—Mr C. C. Fleming wrote offering the land required for road deviation at I'uketc, viz. If acres, for the sum of £l.—After tome discussion the matter was held over until more informal ion, as to the cost of taking over the land was obtained, Mr Clow offering to pay the amount asked for by Mr Fleming as his contribution to the woik. Road Neak LiMMEß's. The Chairman brtught up the matter of improving the road drain near Mr Dimmer's residence.—lt was decide 1 to put in a larger set of pipes, and do some 10 ehains of road formation. D.vmauebv Fjke.— The Chairman reported tl at considerable damage had been done to the Tukcte Swamp Road by fire, the roadway being undermined in places ; also, that he iiad employed a man for several days to put the fire out. —This action was confirmed. Sanding—-Mr Fullerton was authorised to have several chains of sanding, at 5$ per chain, done on the llotokauri Road, in addition to the 30 chains of
sanding row being done gratuitously by Messrs Fullerton and Jones. Accounts. —The following accounts wee passed : Thos. Joins, £1 17« Gd ; Walsh Bros., £2 3s 8d ; J. S. Bond, £1 Is Gd ; J. Mogner, £1 ; A. Fisher, £7 Ss; WAIKATO Ak'ci'S, 19s Gil ; W. Wilcock, 15s 10(1 ; J. Froar, £3 10a lOd.
