HANDSOME SURPLUS. (BY TELEGRAPH—OWK CORRESrONPENT)Wellington. Last Ni»ht. The Minister for Railways estimates that his surplus will lie nearer £IOI,OOO thin £90,000 originally anticipated, and the percentage will be much the same as last year, viz., £3 3s lOd. Notwithstanding that a number of new trucks and waggons hare been put on the lines, tho Department is still hampered by the want of rolling stock. Seventy waggons were lying at Addington waiting to be fitted with the new draw gear, and a further consignment was under construction. The iNJinister reckons there is work enough to keep all the railway shops going for two years. The Easter traffic was the heaviest known and the receipts are expected to be pheuonienal.
