PIRONGIA.

WAir-A Amateur Spokts.—On Monday next the annual meeting of the Waipa Amateur Athletic Club will be held in the club's grounds here. Since the last year's mectiDg the club have had the running track pub into first-class condition, all the distances being now perfectly smooth and level. During this last week the committee have been busy in giving the finishing touches to the cround, making new hurdles, etc., to promote the success of Monday's meeting. Good entries have been received for the various events, and the Paterangi Brass Band engaged, so that given fine weather a most enjoyable day's amusement may be relied upon, as some compensation to the late unpleasant experience of Jupiter Pluviusat the Ngaruawahia Regatta. Land Selection.—Of late there have been several enquiries about and visitors to the Government lands open for selection in this district. One getleman, Mr Stainsbury, has selected 200 acres of the Tarakau Block, Pirongia, adjacent to Mr Hall's selection, and which is now being surveyed by Mr E. de C. Drury, of Hamilton. Entertainment. The Rev. Dr. Hosking gave a Uutern entertainment here in our Public Hall, on Tuesday evening last. As the rev. gentleman's visit was a surprise one, and not having been advertised, the audience was small, but appreciative songs were sung at intervals by Mr Fell and others, so that all present passed a most pleasant- and instructive evening. Stoke.—Our old established store here, for so many years coiiducted by the late Mr John Aubin, and of recent years by his widow, is to be continued by one of the family, as Mr Eugene H. Aubir., the son, now takes over the business from his mother, and will continue it in future on his own account. As Mr Aubin is •' Alexandra " born, and a favourite with all clasres, if good wishes will avail, he should do as good i* business as his progenitor, the late Mr John Aubin.—(Own Gorre pondent).
