CABLE SUMMARY.
The river Ohio burst its banks at Sluwneetown, in Illinois, aud destroyed the greater portion of the town. Two hundred persona were drowned. The Russian Government has informed the Sultan that 20,000 troops will shortly pass through tho Dardanelles, en route for the East. The personalty in the estate of the late Hon. W. Gisborne, formerly of New Zealand, has been sworn at £263,097. Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, Chancellor of the Exchequer, has declined to grant State aid to the Salvation Army for charitable institutions belonging to that body. Mrs Eleanor Marx Aveling, daughter of Carl Marx and wife of E. Bibbings Aveling, the well-known scientist and Socialist, has committed suicide. The Governor of the Portuguese colony of Mozambique is now in Berlin, and has met with a cordial reception. He declares that his object is to secure permanent protection for Delagoa Bay against Britain.
