BREACHES OF THE STOCK ACT.
At the Magistrate's Court, Hamilton, yesterday, before Captain Jackson, S.M., John Alley and William Vuglar were charged by the Stock Inspector with driving sheep infected by lice on 3rd February on a public road, near Tamahere, contrary to the provisions of the Stock Act.
Mr D. Ross, Stock Inspector, appeared on behalf of the Department. Mr R. W. Dyer appeared for Vuglar, and pleaded guilty. Alley was unrepresented, but he wrote pleading guilty. Mr Ross said the sheep had been condemned to be dipped at Ohaupo on the day previous, but they had been removed from the yards without this being done and he had to take action, but from inquiries he had made he was sure the defendants had erred in ignorance, and he would not press for a heavy penalty. The S.M. said he had received a letter from the auctioneers, stating that the she?p had been removed without dipping without the owners' knowledge, and, taking these circumstances into consideration, he would inflict the lowest penalty provided, viz., £l, in each case, and costs, which were £1 6s 6d in Alley's case and Us Gd in Vuglar's.
