SHOCKING FATAL ACCIDENT.
(by telegraph.— own correspondent ) Auckland, Last Night. About nine o'clock this morning a shocking fatal accident occurred in Wyndhamstreet. An old man named Robert Sergeant, " Rabby," 60 years of age, being killed almost instantly by a kick on the temple from a horse. Sergeant was in the shop of Mr Swann, butcher, where he made a purchase of some meat, and he then left tho shop. Outside, backed up against the kerb, was Swann's cart witli the brake on waiting to take orders. The old man went to cross the road, when he slipped against the horse's legs, Mr Wilkin, who was engaged in the shop, saw the horse give a jump and kick the pcor fellow on the temple. Wilkin rushed out, and with Thos. Stitt, who is employed next door, got Sergeant out of his awful position, but by this time one .of the wheels of the cart is stated to have been drawn across the man's throat. Sergeant was given some brandy, but the kick proved too much for him and he died after about quarter of an hour.
