DEATH OF MR G. A. DAVIS.
When the telegram reached Hamilton on Saturday announcing the death of Mr C. A. Davis, expressions of regret were universal. There was possibly no man in the Waikato who was respected and beloved to an equal degree by all who had the privilege of his acquaintance. He always took a lively interest in every question affecting the district, and when necessary never spared time, money or energy in promoting a good cause. He took a prominent part in securing better terms for the suppliers to the milk factories, than without agitation aud the parading of pregnant facts would have been accorded to them. He also took a leading part in the attempt to establish the sugar-beet industry in the Waikato, towards which the foundation has been laid, and no doubt at a date more or less distant the superstructure will be built. Mr Davis passed the earlier years of his career in the mercantile marine, and after giving up the sea as a profession he became a member of the Royal Thames Yacht Club, and was the owner during his career of one or two cracks. He came to New Zealand in 1888, and shortly afterwards purchased " Silverdale," and has resided there ex er since. Mr Davis was an exceptionally clever man ; he had the capacity to orginate ideas, and the mechanical skill to give them form. As a farmer, he was particularly successful as a maker of Cheddar cheese, and took the prize wherever he exhibited. Some years back he met with an accident, and has never been in robust health since, and his early death is traceable to that cause He leaves a young wife to mourn her loss, to whom we tender our heartfelt sympathy.
