SUPREME COURT.
CRIMINAL SESSIONS
(UY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT). Auckland, Last Night. An exemplary sentence was passed by the Supreme Court, on a young man, named John Brown, convicted of having indecently assaulted Mrs Jane Brown, at her residence, Surrey Hills, with intend to commit rape. Tho offence was_ committed seven weeks ago, at night, in the temporary absence of Mrs Brown's husband. The Judge gave the accused a severe lecture, and sent him to goal for five years, with hard labour. William Gibson was sentenced to eighteen months' hard labour for stealing the property of Mr John Flett and of Mr Jos. N. T. Mulligan, at Waihi. Several bookmakers and clients were fiued each 10s and for obstructing the traffic in Vulcan Lane, where the betting fraternity and customers congregate, whenever races are going on, making themselves a nuisance to the public.
