SUFFERERS BY THE LATE BUSH FIRES.

(by telegraph—own correspondent). Wellington, Last Night. The Surveyor-General has promised that grass seed shall be distributed to the sufferers by the bush fires before the end of the month. It will be sent t«> the neaiest railway station. Promissory notes for one, two or three years, bearing no interest or discount, will be accepted for the value of the seed. The Commi-sioner of Lands has obtained very full reports of the losses and requirements in seed of the settlers. Fires in the Pahiatua district destroyed 42 dwellings, 13 whares, 59 out buildings, one church, one creamery, one sawmill, 9280 acres grass, 13,078 chains fencing, 10,459 sheep, seven cows, one foal and three pigs. The total loss was £26,000, and the insurances £49.18.
