TE AWAMUTU PUBLIC LIBRARY.

The annaal meeting of subscribers of the Public Library wits held in the readingroom on Monday evening last. There was only a fair attendance present. Mr Vause presided. The annual report and balance-sheet submitted by the outgoing committee (which has already appeared in the columns of The Argus) was read by the Chairman, who, in moving its adoption, made a few remarks on the satisfactory position of the Library. The report and balance - sheet were unanimously adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year was next proceeded with. On the motion of Mr Vausc, Mr F. W. Lang, M.H.R., was elected Patron of the Library. The following gentlemen were nominated as committee:—Messrs Vause, Andrew, Gresham, James Mandeno, Barker and Culver. There being one in excess of the required number a ballot was taken, Constabla Jones acting as poll clerk. The voting resulted as follows : Vause 9, P.aiker 9, Andrew 7, Gresham 7, Mandeno 6, and Culver i. The first five named were declared duly elected. Mr Culver was re-elected auditor. Pome discussion took place as to the advisableness of exchanging some of the old books with other libraries, and also to change some of the magazines supplied to the reading-room and magazine club. The matter was left in the hands of the incoming committee. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Vause (Chairman) and the outgoing committee! also to Mr Culver (auditor) for past services.

A meeting of the newly-elected committee was held immediately after the geueral meeting. On the motion of Mr Barker, seconded by Mr Mandeno, Mr Vause was unanimously r*; elected Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer of the committee. The Chairman and Mr Andrew were authorised to continue to sign cheques. The resolution passed by the last committee to transfer the library account from the Bank of New Zealand to the Post-office Savings Bank was confirmed. It wa3 agreed, on the motion of Messrs Vause and Grcsham, to continue the m&gazines as at present supplied, excepting Cassell's Family Magazine to be dropped and Public Opinion substituted. The Chairman was authorised to obtain better files for newspapers, and to instruct the librarian to make clippings from the local papers of news or articles referring to Te Awamutu, such clippings to be preserved in a book to be provided for the purpose. It was resolved to hold committee meetings quarterly, and at such other times as any business might require, the chairman being empowered to call special meetings at any time at the request of any two members of the committee, at least three days' notice to be given of any such special meetings. The Chairman notified that a meeting of the committee would be called to finally select fresh editions of standard works, after the books now on order (as authorised by the late committee) were received. —(Own Correspondent).
