CAMBRIDGE ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the above Board was held in the Criterion Hotel, Cambridge, on Saturday. There were present: Messrs C. Day (chairman), W. Main, W. H. Wiight, J. Taylor and W. H. Thomas. The Bank Charges.—The usual circular was received from the manager of the Bank, asking the Board to sign an authority to charge 10s 6d per half-year for keeping the Board's account on and after Ist April next. —The Clerk said no authority had been sent, and he advised the Board not to comply with the request. If the Bank could legally make the charge they (the Board) could depend upon its being made.—The Board agreed with the Clerk. Closing Roads.—Mr A. Hanna, solicitor for the Assets Realisation Board, wrote re the French Pans Road and also about one that runs through the Victoria Estate, as follows :— '* lam in receipt of yours of 21st December ultimo, aud have to thank you for the information thereby given. As you say your Board declines to include the French Pass Road in the question, I need cot go into the various points raised by your letter, leyoud saying that I fully considered the position before bringing the matter under the notice of your Board and am etill of opinion that under the circumstances it ia certainly expedient to obtain a dedication from my client Board of the French Pass Road. As I understand the position, this road has not even yet been properly surveyed, and although I gather from your letter the Road Board claims a public user for over twenty years it must be borne in mind that my client Board holds a Land Transfer title for the road and that it is very doubtful whether, in view of section 57 of'The Land Transfer Act, 1885,'any right, privilege or easement in, upon or over the same • can be acquired' in derogation of the title of the registered proprietor. Such being the case, it appears to mc that, failing a dedication, the road must be taken under the Public Works Act. These circumstances, coupled with the fact that my client Board will pay all coats incidental to the survey and dedication of the French Pass Road and the closing of the road through the Victoria Land Estate suggested to me the advisability of endeavouring to arrange for an exchange on the Hues already indicated. However, as this is apparently not practicable, I presume steps must be taken in the usual way to have the road through the Victoria Land Estate stopped, and, if satisfactory to you, I will prepare and forward the necessary notices and plans for this purpose. I also presume that if the stopping is agreed to the area will' not be acquired for public purposes,' and that my client Board will have an opportunity of acquiring same uuder section 128 of the Public Works Act."—lt wus rtsolved to let Mr Hanna proceed in the manner he suggested. Finance.—At date the overdraft stood at £124 Is 2d. The legal limit is £233 4s 7d. Kite's Corner.—Mr Main said a set of 4in. pipos at this corner needed replacing with 12in. ones. Last year the road was flooded and the gravel washed away. The Company's paddocks were considerably cut up, owing to people having to make a detour through them to avoid the wash-out in the road.—The matter was left in Mr Maiu's hands to attend to. Gbavel Pit.—Messrs Main and TayJor were authorised to do what they consider best to make the disused gravel pit at Hautapu Station s-afe. Accounts. —Tho following accounts were passed for payment: H. Fitzgerald, £6 7s 3d; W. H. Hall, £1 10.; T. Pennell, £8 12s—total, £l6 lis 3d. This concluded the business.
