THE NIGER DISPUTE.
London, February 18. Merchants and bankers are pressing Lord Salisbury to maintain a firm attitude in regard to British claims in the Niger territory. Mr Chamberlain advocates an uncompromising insistence on British treaty rights. The impression is gaining ground that France and Germany contemplate the annexation of Liberia, an independent negro Republic in West Africa.
