THE LATE COLLISION.

An inquiry into the circumstances which ltd to the collision off Tiritiri between the s.s. Stella and the barquentiuc Waitcirata on the Ist inst., commenced on Tuesday. The circumstances attending the collision have a'ready been published, and the evidence taken substantiates the version pivf.ii. Capt Kennedy, of the Stella, admitted having had a considerable number of drinks, extending over a period from early in the aflcruoon till midnight, just previous to hating the Auckland wharf. He admitted that he was not quite sober, but maintained that he was capable of performing his duties. The wheelman admitted having several drinks during the dsy and five or s'x during the evening. Ho drank whisky and soda.
