WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the Borough Council Chambers on Thursday. There were present: Mr W. Dey ( hairman), and Messrs A. Primrose, A. J. Farmer, E. Allen, S. Steele, W. J. Vickers, A. Furze, A. Bach, \V. H. Thomas, J. B. Teasdale, R. J. McGuirk aud N. I. Hunt. Hallamore.—The house steward of the Auckland Hospital notified the admission of Thomas Hallamore, of Onewhero, to that institution. Resignation. The resignation of Miss A. L. Bridgman as charge nurse at the Waikato Hospital was received wi h regret, and the young lady's offer to remain at the institution until her place tt'as filled was thankfully accepted by the Board. The Nursing Staff.— Applications for appointments as nurses were received from Misses Em.ly Booth, of Kingsland, and K. Joss, of Auckland.—lt was resolved to reply stating that the vacancies could only be filled by certificated nurses. A long desultory discussion then ensued upon the appointment of nurses, but nothing definite was arrived at. One and all, however, appeared to be in favour of holding the nurses' examinition every year, in order to give those who were competent to pass an opportunity of gainiug promotion. It ia understood that the Chairman will bring forward a notice of motion at next meeting bearing on the question, which will then be fu'iy considered. Donation.—Mr Martin Casey, of Cambridge, forwarded through Constable Cahill, his annual donation of £1 towards the fuuds of the institution.—A vote of thanks was parsed to the donor. Sanatoeium Patient.--On the recommendation of Ur. Kenny, the Board decided to send Major Minnctt, who is at present in the Hospital, to the Rototua Sanatorium for treatment. Fitzpatrick'.s Childrkn.—An account for £7 4s was received from St. Mary's Orphanage, Auck and, for the maintcn ance of Lizzie Fitzpitrick's children, four in number, at 6* a week each.—The Board considered the charge an excessive one, and the account was not passed pending enquiries. Secretary's Report.—The secretary's report, showing the amount of fees collected for the lasteight weeks to be £156 12s, was read and adopted. Livingstone's Allotment—Mr McGuirk reported that he, with Mr Vickers, had inspected the allotment at Tuhikaramea applied for by Mr Livingstone, and he recommended the land should again be put up to auction tor a term of 21 years, subject to £l2 for improvements made by Mr Livingstone already.—The committee—originally appointed to inspect the property —was requested to draw up the necessary conditions ot lease and submit them at next meeting. Doctor's Report.—The doctor's report, showing the number of patients in the Hospital at the present time to be 35, was received and adopted. Battery.—lt was reported that the battery at the Hospitil required repairing, and the matter was lett in the hands of the Chairman to see to. Relief.—The usual relief for the ensuing month was granted. Finance.—The Clerk read the following statement of the Board's financial position :—Amounts due from contributing bodies : Waipa County Council, £77; Hamilton Borough Council, £25 2s ; Cambridge Borough Council, £25 13s ; Government subsidy, £291 ; total, £4lB 15s ; cash and bank, t'ISS 8s 7d ; fees, say £IOO ; rent*, £lO ; total. £707 3s 7d ; less accounts to pay, £278 Ds 1 ; balance, £428 14s 61.
