BOWLING TOURNAMENT.

(by telegraph.—ows correspondent). Napier, Last Night. There was perfect weather for the opening of the North Island bowling tournament this morning. Thirteen clubs arc taking part, the visiting bowlers representing the Auckland, Wellington, Thomdon, Wanganui, Gisborne, Palmerston North, Ponsonby, Feilding, Newton, and Devonport Clubs, and in addition the three local Clubs (Napier, Bluff Hill and Hastings) are represented. At 9 o'clock, Mr P. Dunwiddie, President of the As ociat : on, briefly welcomed the visitors and declared the tournament open. The following are the scores for the first round: Wellington, 27, Hastings, 21; Auckland, 21 ; Newton, 19 ; Wanganui, 29 ; Ponsonby aud Napier, 35 ; Gisborne, 10 ; B'liff Hill, 24; Ross, 10: Palmerston North, 14 ; Devonport, 23; Devonport Kilgour), 39. This completes the first round.
